When I retired to Thailand, I envisaged that I would spend the rest of my days sitting in a hammock on the beach, suspended between two palm trees, sipping cocktails surrounded by beautiful Thai ladies with an occasional dip in the Gulf of Thailand to cool me down, but the novelty soon wore off and boredom set in and I started to look for a challenge to make my life more interesting and fulfilling. Fast-forward four years and with writing my books, updating my blog and my soon to be online YouTube channel I am busier than I ever was when I was working for a living and I am loving every minute of it as I don’t consider any of this as work…it’s fun.

Recently to add to my workload, I had an article about my life as an author here in Thailand printed in The Phuket News and Chris the editor followed up on the story a few days later and he asked if I would like to do a regular column for the newspaper… so here is my first of what I hope will be many “EX-PAT LIFE” columns in The Phuket News, a column on the ups and downs of what it’s like to live as an ex-pat here in this crazy country that is affectionately known as the Land of Smiles. Thailand does have its problems but give me the chaos and unpredictable nature of Thailand any time compared to the regimented, regulated, politicly correct b*** S*** that most western countries offer.
